My storytelling sculptures communicate the way I view life and make light of the shitty situations I have encountered. These sculptures are heavily influenced by the gaudy and extravagant decor and iconography of Catholic churches, as well as old Saturday morning cartoons, becoming exaggerated narratives that are reflections of my life. I express my lived experience with looming humorous and frenzied imagery. Clay properly allows me to physically feel and create these stories. I make large architectural structures covered with drawings, textures, and tarnished surfaces, along with figures that express my internal dialogues. The figures strongly resemble cartoon characters because of their resilience and ability to bounce back up after intense damage. There is an obsessive drive within me that compels me to narrate these personal stories through my work. Creating the sculptures helps me cope with my emotions and experiences. I want those that view my work to understand that they are able to endure adversity and come back with vigor and perseverance.
